Finding Peace Amidst Summer Chaos

There’s peace in the madness over our heads
Let it carry me u-u-u-u-up”

Do you ever feel like you’re in the eye of a storm? That there is chaos all around and you’re just trying to feel grounded in the middle? Like a tree that is rooted, but swaying in the breeze. That is how I feel at this point of the summer. June is full of the freedom of school being out, rounded by kids’ sports, and summer activities. July 4th is a chance to reset for the rest of the summer and try to catch a day out on the lake.

The lyrics of this new Lorde song really defined that feeling for me. That instead of trying to get control of everything I should find peace in the madness over my head. I don’t have control over this stuff anyway.

So I escaped the chaos yesterday and dove into the lake. Above, there was wind, people, and boats; below it was calm and peaceful. The water felt smooth and cool and comforting all at the same time. Like the embrace of a silk scarf around my neck.

The buoyancy of the water lifted me back up to the light, breaking through the surface with a smile. The smell of the lake calmed my soul. Like a fresh breeze with hints of fish and algae. I laid back with the sun on my face.

I got back on the boat, cracked open a beer, and carried on with friends and family. Life is good on the lake.
