“I’m in love with every song you’ve ever heard.”
Noah Kahan, Strawberry Wine
Welcome to my blog! I’m a lake lover and a music lover, and they are my favorite things in life besides the people I love. Music runs through my veins and speaks to me about what it means to be human. Lakes provide a respite to reflect on your true self and understand your place in the world.
I was three months old the first time I was in a boat. I spent all day rocking along with the waves as my parents fished on Leech Lake in northern Minnesota. Today, I have dedicated my life and career to studying lakes and talking with people about lake stewardship and protection.
My family still has that summer cabin on Leech Lake, and I have been there every summer since birth. It is my mental and spiritual retreat; my place of renewal. Not much can top the feelings of boating across a glassy surface, sitting on the dock in contemplation, or observing our resident eagle return each year to the same tree to nest. It is here that I feel at one with nature and with myself.
I believe our favorite lake is a family member, listening in on all the stories around the campfire, and sharing in our joys and sorrows, absorbing them into its vast depths. This blog contains my reflections, expertise, and experiences through the lens of lakes and the outdoors, with music lyrics to match. These are my confessions as a lake lover. Enjoy 🙂
